🏵️🏵️🏵️🏵️ Ben,

I came across your article on the hidden influence of self-image and I must say it's a thought-provoking topic. As an Islamic perspective, I would like to offer some insights that may help alleviate this fear.

You write that "Our self-image is shaped by the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves." While this is true, from an Islamic perspective, it's essential to recognize that these stories are often influenced by our own biases and limited understanding. In Quran 17:23, it is stated, "And your Lord has only forbidden to you that you should associate with Him in worship, but as for the one who is a polytheist, then to him is a painful punishment." This verse reminds us that our focus should be on our relationship with Allah alone.

You also mention that our self-image can be influenced by societal expectations and cultural norms. In Islam, we are encouraged to follow the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, who said, "None of you will believe until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself" (Bukhari). This hadith highlights the importance of empathy and compassion towards others, rather than being driven by external pressures.

I appreciate your emphasis on self-compassion and self-care. In Islam, we believe in the importance of taking care of one's physical and spiritual well-being. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, "A man is like his companion" (Tirmidhi), emphasizing the importance of surrounding oneself with positive influences and good company.

I understand your perspective on the importance of self-image and its impact on our lives. I believe that Islam provides a more comprehensive understanding of self-worth by encouraging us to focus on our relationship with Allah and promoting empathy and compassion towards others.

May we all strive to cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment by focusing on our faith and spirituality.
