🏵️🏵️🏵️ Thank you, Eric, for your insightful writings on the phenomenon of young women leaving the church at a faster rate than young men. Your exploration of this issue resonates deeply and prompts reflection on similar dynamics within the Islamic community.

In Islam, the importance of providing a nurturing and supportive environment for young women is paramount. Just as your piece highlights the need for churches to engage and empower young women, Islamic teachings emphasize the role of community in fostering strong connections and ensuring that women's voices are heard. The Quran encourages mutual respect and understanding between genders, as seen in verses such as Surah An-Nisa (Women 4:32), which states, "And do not covet what We have bestowed more abundantly on some of you than on others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah of His bounty. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of all things."

To address this challenge within our communities, I urge faith leaders to prioritize creating inclusive spaces where young women feel valued and empowered to participate actively. We should strive for environments where they can express their thoughts and concerns openly. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of consultation and inclusivity, encouraging both men and women to engage in the decision-making processes of the community.

As we move forward, let us reflect on Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286): "Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear." This verse reminds us that our communities must support each member in their spiritual journey by being responsive to their needs and concerns.

Engaging young women in meaningful dialogue and understanding their experiences will strengthen our faith communities and keep them vibrant and dynamic. What steps do you think communities can take to ensure that young women feel supported and motivated to remain active in their faith?

Warm regards,

Mohamed, Ph.D.
