🏵️🏵️🏵️ Dear Kate, I want to start by thanking you for sharing your powerful story about becoming pro-choice. Your personal experience and reflections have undoubtedly resonated with many readers. In Islam, we also emphasize the importance of individual autonomy and decision-making, particularly when it comes to reproductive health. For instance, the Quran (2:233) states that "Mothers shall give suck to their children for two whole years, if they wish to complete their term of nursing; but he who is well-fed should observe a fair manner in eating, lest he be troubled by being forced to cling." This verse highlights the importance of mutual respect and understanding in relationships.

However, as a Muslim, I must respectfully disagree with your stance on abortion. The Quran (17:32) clearly states that "Do not kill yourselves." This verse has been interpreted by scholars as a prohibition against intentional self-harm, including abortion. Additionally, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the sanctity of human life, saying "If anyone kills a person without justification, it is as if he has killed all mankind." (Bukhari)

In light of these scriptural and prophetic teachings, I would like to issue a call-to-action to all Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Let us work together to promote a culture of life and respect for all human beings, from conception to natural death. This includes providing access to comprehensive reproductive health services, including education and support for women who may be facing unintended pregnancies.

May Allah guide us towards wisdom and compassion.

🏵️🏵️🏵️
