The Organizing Thread In The Book Of God — Part 7
What indicates to you is that God wants the servant to keep his heart pleading for help in the event of a crisis, and after overcoming it.. and that it is not etiquette to supplicate to God during an emergency and then neglect the attachment to God after conditions improve. God describes this scene by saying in Surat Yunus:
And when affliction touches man, he calls upon Us, whether lying on his side or sitting or standing; but when We remove from him his affliction, he continues [in disobedience] as if he had never called upon Us to [remove] an affliction that touched him. Thus is made pleasing to the transgressors that which they have been doing [Yunus, 12]
Reflect on how the verse described the boredom that afflicts a person during a calamity, so they supplicate to God in all their states, standing, sitting, and lying down. If God reveals his misfortune, he is heedless and forgets those moments in which he was conversing with his Lord.. the memory of those supplications to God in distress...
Other verses explained this painful scene mentioned in Surat Yunus to confirm the importance of the topic. The Almighty says in Surat Al-Zumar:
And when adversity touches man, he calls upon his Lord, turning to Him [alone]; then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets Him whom he called upon before, and he attributes to Allah equals to mislead [people] from His way. Say, “Enjoy your disbelief for a little; indeed, you are of the companions of the Fire.” [Zumar, 8]
God says in Surah Fussilat:
And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; but when evil touches him, then he is full of extensive supplication. [Fussilat, 51].
By God, I feel ashamed when I comment on these verses... How often a person insists on his Lord if a need is presented to him, and if his demand is fulfilled and his purpose is achieved, joy will fly by him and make him forget the celibacy in the hands of his Lord.
What is meant is that if the meditator of the Qur’an contemplates how God has repeated in various representations, he will censure those who supplicate to God in a state of adversity, and neglect in a state of well-being;
He knew that God wants the heart to be attached to God in every situation.
I will ask you, dear brother, the reader of these lines, a question that these written words reveal, but put the answer in your chest, make it a monologue with loved ones between you and me.
My question is: By God, did you not have a moment when you boarded (the plane) traveling to tourism or trade or something else, and things were fine, then you were in the middle of the sky, the plane trembled due to weather conditions, or you saw the crew of the plane panting as if they were hiding something dangerous, so how was it your feelings in that situation?
Did you not pray to God for fear of peace, did the tape of sins and disobedience run quickly before your eyes? Did you not get the feeling that if you arrive peacefully, you would repent after seeing death?
Have you had this moment? So, read how God depicts the same scene, but on another similar means of transportation, and contemplate how he rebukes us for that. God says in Surat Yunus:
( 22 ) It is He who enables you to travel on land and sea until, when you are in ships and they sail with them by a good wind and they rejoice therein, there comes a storm wind and the waves come upon them from everywhere and they assume that they are surrounded, supplicating Allah, sincere to Him in religion, “If You should save us from this, we will surely be among the thankful.”
( 23 ) But when He saves them, at once they commit injustice upon the earth without right. O mankind, your injustice is only against yourselves, [being merely] the enjoyment of worldly life. Then to Us is your return, and We will inform you of what you used to do. [Yunus, 22–23].
Oh, the eloquence of the Qur’an...By God, this scene has been repeated since God revealed these verses to this day of people!
And this scene mentioned in Surat Yunus was explained by another similar verse in Surat Al-Isra, and the verse of Al-Isra revealed the ignorance of the human mind, and how it overlooks other dangers even if it was delivered on the journey in which he survived. God says again about the means of transportation:
( 67 ) And when adversity touches you at sea, lost are [all] those you invoke except for Him. But when He delivers you to the land, you turn away [from Him]. And ever is man ungrateful.
( 68 ) Then do you feel secure that [instead] He will not cause a part of the land to swallow you or send against you a storm of stones? Then you would not find for yourselves an advocate.
( 69 ) Or do you feel secure that He will not send you back into the sea another time and send upon you a hurricane of wind and drown you for what you denied? Then you would not find for yourselves against Us an avenger. [Al-Isra, 67–69]
Reflect on how the verse refers to the ignorance of man, as he thinks that if righteousness arrives, he will be safe, and therefore he is negligent!
And the Qur’an warns him that even if he descends to the ground, he may be under the threat of more severe punishment, such as being flattened, as happened to Qarun, or throwing pebbles, as happened to the village of Sodom.
Then the Qur’an gives an astonishing warning, which is that you who escaped this time from danger and reached land, you may return again to the same means of transportation and perish more severely when the wind breaks your boats...
Another verse referred to the disparity of people after the moment of the danger to the means of transport:
And when waves come over them like canopies, they supplicate Allah, sincere to Him in religion. But when He delivers them to the land, there are [some] of them who are moderate [in faith]. And none rejects Our signs except everyone treacherous and ungrateful. [Luqman, 32]
This image that the Qur’an repeats about traveling by ships and yachts, transfer it to a similar means of transportation, such as planes, trains, or cars, and contemplate how a person is anxious about it, especially if he goes through natural conditions, such as winds that cause turmoil, then when he descends on the ground he forgets his calmness, supplication, and determination to be upright.
Remember this image that we are going through, and re-read the previous verse of Yunus and the previous Isra’, and the meanings of faith and attachment to God will be revealed to you as long as it did not cross your mind.
What is meant is that the contemplator of the Qur’an sees how God wants hearts that remain attached to Him in times of danger and safety... It is the organizing thread and the major truth in the Qur’an, which is the continuation of the heart’s movement with faith in God and attachment to Him, Glory be to Him.
