For some, the purpose of spiritual fasting is to practice self-discipline as a form of worship, focusing on spiritual matters, and learning to rely on spiritual strength, rather than physical sustenance. For others, it's a way to purify the body and spirit, and to gain a deeper understanding of oneself and the world around them.
