Here are some thoughts from Islam perspective:
Islam considers the human body as a creation of God (Allah), and every element within has a specific purpose. Hormones are also considered a part of the human body, and they play a crucial role in determining an individual's physical and emotional state. Allah has created everything in balance, and a Muslim's aim is to maintain that balance in life.
The Quran has emphasized the significance of human emotions and encourages Muslims to acknowledge and manage their emotions in an ethical way. “And those who suppress their anger and pardoned men; verily, Allah loves Al-Muhsinun (the good doers)” (Quran 3:134). This verse indicates the importance of managing anger, which is influenced by hormones like adrenaline.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised Muslims to have self-control in all situations. “The strong man is not the good wrestler; the strong man is only the one who controls himself when he is angry” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6114). This Hadith highlights the need to control one's emotions, including those that are influenced by hormones, and to exercise self-restraint according to the teachings of Islam.
Islam also encourages Muslims to seek refuge in Allah from the whispering of the devil, who can influence one's emotions towards negative behavior. "Whosoever fears Allah, Allah will appoint for him a way out and provide for him from places he could never imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allah, then He will suffice him" (Quran 65:2-3). This verse encourages Muslims to have trust and seek refuge in Allah to control their emotions when hormones trigger negative responses.
In the end, Islam advocates managing emotions, including those influenced by hormones, using ethical and Quranic principles to keep the right balance in life. Given the importance of this, a Muslim should strive to ensure they exercise self-control and discipline in the face of any emotional or hormonal triggers to avoid negative consequences and maintain a state of inner peace and harmony in pleasing Allah.
