Islam, like Christianity, acknowledges the past existence of slavery and how it was an accepted social norm during the early days of Islam.🏵️🏵️
However, the teachings of Islam emphasize the fundamental importance of treating all human beings with respect, equality, and dignity regardless of their race, gender, or social status.
The Qur'an states in Chapter 17, verse 70: "We have honored the children of Adam and carried them on land and sea; We have provided good sustenance for them and favored them especially with many of our creatures."
Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged the act of freeing slaves and forbade any cruelty or exploitation towards them.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) stated, "Whoever frees a Muslim slave, Allah will liberate for every limb of his body a limb from the Fire" (Sahih Bukhari 2552).
Islam emphasizes the importance of justice and compassion towards all, including slaves.
In Chapter 4, verse 36, Allah says, "Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and show kindness to parents, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and to slaves. Indeed, Allah does not like prideful boasters" (Quran 4:36).
