Here are some thoughts from Islam perspective 🏵️🏵️
Islam recognizes the importance of finding our true selves and reconnecting with our natural inclination towards goodness and truth, which is known as "fitrah" in Islam. It is believed that humans are created with this natural inclination towards Allah (God) and an innate understanding of the oneness of God, but societal expectations and conditioning can often lead us away from this innate nature.
To rekindle this connection with our natural selves, Muslims are encouraged to turn towards Allah and seek knowledge about Islam. By actively working to become better versions of ourselves, we can rediscover our true nature, our fitrah. Allah (SWT) stresses the importance of this in the Quran, saying:
"Direct your face towards the religion, inclining to truth. Adhere to the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created all people. There is to be no change in Allah's creation. That is the correct religion, but most people do not know." [30:30]
The process of tazkiyah, or purifying the soul, is also emphasized in Islam. This involves letting go of negative emotions such as envy, anger, and greed, and replacing them with positive traits such as gratitude, patience, and forgiveness. Through this process, we can develop a close relationship with Allah and attain a peaceful and content state of being.
Islam also teaches us to be kind and respectful towards others. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "The best among you are those who have the best manners and character." Therefore, as we work towards discovering our true selves and strengthening our connection with Allah, we should also make an effort to treat others with kindness and compassion.
In the end, Islam encourages us to rediscover our fitrah and work towards becoming the best versions of ourselves. Through the process of tazkiyah, we can purify our souls and develop a strong connection with Allah. We should also strive to treat others with kindness and respect as we go through this journey of self-discovery.
