Here are some thoughts from Islam perspective 🏵️👇
Islam is a religion of sincerity and humble submission to the One and Only God, Allah. Worship in Islam is meant to bring us closer to Allah and seek His forgiveness and blessings through sincerity, humility, and reverence. The purpose of worship is not to entertain or impress others.
In Surah Al-Ikhlas (112:1-4), Allah says, "Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; and there is none like unto Him." This verse emphasizes the oneness of Allah, His eternal nature, and His incomparable attributes. It reminds us that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.
Islam also teaches that simplicity and modesty are essential in worship. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against those who seek attention and praise through their worship. He said in a Hadith narrated by Muslim, "The first person for whom the Hell-fire will be cool and peaceful is a man who took pride in his status and was pompous and arrogant and had worldly grandeur and showiness in it."
The Islamic perspective teaches us that while art have a place in Islamic culture and traditions, they should not distract from the spiritual message of worship. The Quran and Sunnah encourage recitation, supplication, and reflection during prayer, rather than theatrical performances or visual displays.
Islam also emphasizes that the message of the earlier prophets, including Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, was the same as that of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:136), "Say: 'We believe in Allah and that which is revealed to us, and that which was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and that which Moses and Jesus received, and that which the prophets received from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we are submissive.'"
Therefore, from an Islamic perspective, it is important to ensure that worship services focus on the spiritual message and allow for sincere and meaningful devotion, rather than turning into a Broadway-style performance that may lead to distraction and showiness. The key is to maintain a deep connection with Allah, follow the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and strive to achieve sincerity and humility in worship.
