Islam also recognizes personal responsibility and free will as important factors in shaping one's life. Muslims believe that Allah (God) has given every individual the ability to choose between right and wrong, and individual actions and choices have consequences in this world and the hereafter.
In Islamic tradition, it is believed that Allah sends prophets and messengers to guide humanity towards the right path. These prophets, including Abraham, Moses, Muhammad, and Jesus (Isa), were sent as role models and examples for people to follow. Muslims believe that guidance from prophets and messengers is important, but the ultimate decision to follow it rests with the individual.
Islam also emphasizes the importance of self-transformation and inner change. Muslims believe that one's relationship with Allah (God) should be based on sincere repentance, seeking forgiveness, and striving to become a better person. It is believed that through sincere devotion and striving towards righteousness, one can attain closeness to Allah and inner peace.
One of the most well-known Quranic verses about personal transformation is "Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves" (Surah Al-Ra'd 13:11). This verse emphasizes that people should take responsibility for their actions and choices if they seek to improve their situations.
In addition, Islam encourages Muslims to focus on fundamental attitudes and qualities that lead to positive change, such as humility, patience, and perseverance. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encourages "the one who is patient, the patient one is the one who attains every goodness" (Sahih Muslim).
The Quran also stresses the importance of seeking guidance from Allah in personal transformation. Muslims are encouraged to pray for guidance and seek knowledge to better understand Allah's will. "Allah guides whoever He wills" (Surah Al-'Imran 3:73).
Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):
"The deeds are considered by the intentions, and a person will get the reward according to his intentions." (Sahih Bukhari, Book 1, Hadith 1)
This hadith emphasizes the importance of one's intention behind their actions. Islam believes that one's intentions are an essential aspect of their responsibility and accountability.
This concept is further emphasized throughout the Quran, especially in Surah Al-Ikhlas (112), which states:
"Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him."
This verse affirms that Allah is the only unique, eternal, and absolute being who is not born nor does He give birth. There is no one comparable to Him in any way.
Overall, Islam calls for individuals to take responsibility for their actions and to strive towards self-transformation and inner change. Believing in guidance from prophets and messengers is important, but it is ultimately up to the individual to follow it. Islam emphasizes the importance of accountability in this life and the hereafter, and encourages individuals to seek Allah's forgiveness and mercy through sincere repentance.
